Wyoming County celebrating Manufacturing Day Friday

GAINESVILLE —Wyoming County’s Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Development Agency and Business Education Council have partnered with Drasgow Inc. as a host site to celebrate Wyoming County’s Manufacturing Day on Friday, Oct. 3.

Tours will be available at the Drasgow facility from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule a tour, visitors can call Crystal Hilton at (585) 786-3603.

Wyoming County is home to more than 55 manufacturers making products that range from automatic girth welders used on oil storage tanks around the world to baked goods found on Jet Blue airplanes.

“On behalf of the business organizations, I thank Karl Drasgow, for participating in Manufacturing Day by opening his facility and inviting the public to tour an outstanding Wyoming County manufacturer,” Scott Gardner, president of the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. “We encourage the community to take some time to learn more about local manufacturing and jobs right here in our backyard.”

“I believe we are all interested in improving our community here in Wyoming County. We need to raise awareness that there is a large demand for skilled employees to fill mid-level manufacturing jobs. We need to create educational programs to train our residents to fill these jobs. There isn’t much difference between a CNC Milling Machine and Modern Corn Chopper. We need a better technical training program in Wyoming County,” said Karl Drasgow. “We need to anchor our most talented people here, attract new businesses to this area and help our existing businesses compete in an international market place to promote the future prosperity of our community.”

Drasgow Inc. is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Tier II Automotive Parts Supplier located at 4150 Poplar Tree Rd., Gainesville. The company produces a high volume of small parts machined from bar stock on Multi Spindle Screw machines, machine castings in its CNC area and utilize its Tool & Die/EDM area for production support. Parts produced at Drasgow go on to Tier I automotive manufacturing companies where they are assembled and packaged for shipment to truck and car assembly lines. More information on the company can be found at www.drasgowinc.com.

Manufacturing Day is a growing grassroots movement of manufacturers dedicated to overcoming the shared challenges facing manufacturers today. The most pressing issue facing manufacturers is a gap in skilled labor: 600,000 manufacturing jobs are currently unfilled in the United States due to a gap between the job requirements and the skills of those who are applying for them. This gap continues to widen.
